Ronni Chandler has published her first book, "Light from a Candle". Ronni is the Executive Director of Project GRAD Knoxville. After working 23 years with Pellissippi State Community College in various roles, Ronni joined the investment of talent and resources to bring Project GRAD to Knoxville in 2001. A Knoxville native, and long time community builder, she is a graduate of Austin-East High School, Pellissippi State Community College, and Tusculum College. Ronni is also licensed by the A.M.E. Zion denomination as an Exhorter and is on the ministry team at First AME Zion Church. She is an educator by calling and by choice. Ronni is a cancer survivor with a powerful story of overcoming adversity through faith and the word of God. Dexter Murphy has been appointed the Principal at Green Magnet Academy. Mr. Murphy is currently an assistant principal at the Sarah Moore Greene Magnet Academy. He joined the Knox County Schools in 2009 as a teacher at Pond Gap Elementary School and was a fellow in the 2013 cohort for the Principal Leadership Academy serving as an assistant principal at Vine Middle School during his experience with the Leadership Academy. Mr. Murphy holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from the University of Tennessee, a Master of Education degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Lincoln Memorial University and an Education Specialist degree from the University of Tennessee. |

The Inky and Allison Johnson Foundation has awarded the 2015 Overcoming Adversity Scholarship to Jakayia (“Kay Kay”) Fain, graduating senior at Fulton High School in Knoxville, TN. Fain was encouraged to apply for the scholarship by Project GRAD Knoxville College/Career Access Coach Justin Long. Fain, the second of seven siblings raised by a single mother, began playing basketball as a child to escape the harsh realities of public housing. Despite the tragic death of her mother two days before her 16th birthday and a torn ACL, Fain was determined to finish strong. She returned to basketball, was named All-District and All Region MVP and will graduate with honors on May 13.
